AIANTA is happy to welcome celebrated architect Johnpaul Jones (Oklahoma Choctaw/Cherokee), the visionary behind such projects as the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian (Washington D.C.), the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum (Palm Springs, Calif. pictured here) and the Santa Ynez Chumash Cultural Center and Museum (Santa Ynez, Calif.)
Mr. Jones will discuss his approach to Native American planning and design centered around the Four Worlds. The presentation will explore tribal tourism development including the Native Natural World, Animal World, Spirit World and the Native Human World: “We are people of our places and natural landscapes, and we know everything from the beauty or our land, we know the dirt, water, air, sky, seasons, plants – and we have good stories to tell about each area.
This webinar is presented as part of a partnership-based project between the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail and AIANTA to tell the stories and to develop a tribal place name map of the Southern Arizona, Southern California, Central California and Northern California tribes associated with the trail.
