Mobile Workshop #1: Experience Choctaw Culture – Literally
8:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 spots available)
Cost: $75
This immersive workshop offers a meaningful introduction to the Mississippi Choctaw, the original inhabitants of this region and the descendants of those who remained rooted in their ancestral homeland. Begin your day at the Chahta Immi Cultural Center, where you’ll explore the rich heritage of the Choctaw people. Enjoy a traditional Chahta lunch, then spend the afternoon creating a cultural keepsake to take home. Participants can choose from a variety of hands-on activities, including: crafting a rabbit stick keychain, sewing a headband, making a medallion or mini drum, weaving a basket, shaping a round comb, or engaging in a brief introduction to the Chahta language.
Mobile Workshop #2: Journey to the Heart of Choctaw Heritage
8:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (20 spots available)
Cost: $75
Begin your day at Nanih Waiya, the sacred mother mound of the Choctaw people. This tour includes visits to both the ceremonial mound and the nearby cave mound, where you’ll hear the stories and significance of Nanih Waiya shared by a respected community elder. From there, return to the Pearl River Community for a guided tour of our tribal lands. Discover the history of the Mississippi Choctaw and the enduring strength of our ancestors who made it possible for us to remain on our homeland today. Enjoy a traditional Chahta meal for lunch, followed by an afternoon of cultural expression—create your own Choctaw keepsake to carry this experience with you. Participants can choose from hands-on activities such as making a rabbit stick keychain, sewn headband, medallion, mini drum, round comb, basket weaving, or joining a brief introduction to the Chahta language.
